Are you playing small in your career journey?

Hi Reader,

I hope this message finds you in the middle of a great day! I’ve been doing a lot of thinking lately, especially about our career journeys as women in tech, and there’s a quote that’s been resonating with me. I just had to share it with you:

“Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate.

Our deepest fear in that we are powerful beyond measure.

It is our Light, not our Darkness, that most frightens us.

We ask ourselves, who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented, fabulous?

Actually, who are you not to be?

You are a child of God. Your playing small does not serve the World.

There is nothing enlightening about shrinking so that other people won’t feel unsure around you.

We were born to make manifest the glory of God that is within us.

It is not just in some of us; it is in everyone.

As we let our own Light shine, we consciously give other people permission to do the same.

As we are liberated from our own fear, our presence automatically liberates others.”

-Marianne Williamson

Why am I sharing this? Because it echoes so much of what I’ve felt but haven’t always been able to articulate. It’s a reminder of our potential and the beauty of embracing that fully, not just in our careers but in every facet of our lives.

It’s like a lightbulb moment for me, reinforcing why I do what I do, both as a coach and in my personal quest for growth. This quote underlines a truth I’ve come to realize:

  • We’ve all got something special, our unique “superpowers.” It’s time we stopped downplaying them.
  • Self-doubt? It doesn’t have room in our story. We’re more than capable.
  • Playing small serves no one, least of all us. Let’s aim for those big dreams and bigger roles.
  • Seeking approval from outside? Nah, we’ve got all the answers we need within us.
  • Fear of greatness? Let’s replace that with the courage to be our authentic selves.

This quote has been a game-changer for me, shaping how I approach my work and my life. And now, I’m curious about you. How does it sit with you? Can you see bits of your journey reflected in these words?

How can you play to your full potential this week?

Take care and chat soon,
Jossie
