The Confidence Gap

Reader, did you know that we, especially women in tech, often underestimate our abilities compared to our actual competence?

This is known as the ‘confidence gap’, and it’s more common than you’d think.

So, what contributes to this confidence gap?

Here’s the breakdown:

  1. Societal and cultural norms: They shape our beliefs about ourselves, often undermining our confidence in certain areas like leadership or tech skills.
  2. Imposter syndrome: Ever downplayed your achievements, attributing success to external factors rather than your own capabilities? You’re not alone.
  3. Perfectionism & fear of failure: Setting high standards can deter us from taking risks and showcasing our abilities.
  4. Past negative experiences: Failure, criticism, rejection. These can make us feel insecure and hesitant to take on new challenges.
  5. Lack of support & encouragement: Without validation or praise, it’s easy to feel like we’re failing. We need constructive feedback, mentorship, and sponsorship.
  6. Comparison: With so much ‘success’ on social media, it’s easy to feel inadequate. But remember, most people only share their accomplishments, not their failures online.

It’s a tough journey, but trust me, I’ve been there. It’s taken time, but I’ve learned to navigate these barriers and keep pushing forward. Through my coaching, I’ve helped numerous women combat these challenges, empowering them to fully embrace their potential.

Here’s the truth: We are capable, valuable, and deserve to be here.

So, let’s stick together, support each other, and bridge this confidence gap.
Because ladies, we can do anything we set our minds to. 💪

Cheers,

Jossie
